Prophets of Rage promised to both release new music and "cause a ruckus" at this week's Republican National Convention in Cleveland, and it appears they've made good on both. The day before their concert at Cleveland's Agora, they've recorded their take on "Prophets of Rage" by Public Enemy, whose frontman, Chuck D, is in the band along with former members of Rage Against the Machine and B-Real of Cypress Hill. You can listen to it above.

A press release says that it was produced by Brendan O'Brien, who was behind the boards for two Rage albums, 1996's Evil Empire and 1999's The Battle of Los Angeles, as well as career-defining records for Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots. An EP from Prophets of Rage is on the way, although there has been no announcement of a street date.

The band will appear on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live! on July 25. Then, on Aug. 19, the group will kick off their "Make America Rage Again" tour at the EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Va. AWOLNATION and Wakrat, a band that includes Prophets bassist Tim Commerford, will serve as the opening acts. You can get all the dates at Prophets of Rage's website. The group are donating a portion of the proceeds from every show to a local charity dedicated to helping the homeless.

Prophets of Rage were formed back in May, with a high-profile debut show at the Whiskey a Go Go in Los Angeles shortly thereafter that was comprised of music the catalogs of all three of the members' original bands. The group's name is taken from a song off of Public Enemy's 1988 album, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back.
