If you need a job, make sure you get to the Mesa County Workforce Center this Friday for the huge Popeyes hiring event!

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is coming to Grand Junction. This Friday from 10 am to 4 pm drop by the Workforce Center, fill out an application and get to know the franchise. They're looking hire nearly 70 employees.

Popeyes got started in New Orleans forty-five years ago. Alvin C. Copeland Sr. opened his first restaurant “Chicken on the Run” in the New Orleans area. After a slow start, he reopened the place and called it "Popeyes" named after Popeye Doyle, the fictional character portrayed by actor Gene Hackman in the film "The French Connection." This time around the restaurant featured his signature spicy, New Orleans-style chicken and as they say, the rest is history.

I got hooked on Popeyes while working in Arkansas. There was a store a couple blocks from the radio station.  We grabbed lunch there at least once a week. Around the holidays we gave away some of their yummy Cajun Style turkeys. They're 9 to 13-pound birds marinated in their Louisiana spices and flash-fried! I took one back home on Thanksgiving and everybody loved it!

Again, that's this Friday the 13th. It can be a "lucky" day for you if you're looking for employment. The Mesa County Workforce Center is at 512 29 1/2 Road, Grand Junction.
