Did you know Nikola Tesla conducted many of his experiments from a laboratory in Colorado? Where would you find his old lab?

The video at top is from the 2006 movie "The Prestige." The late David Bowie portrays Tesla. These scenes take place at Tesla's Colorado Springs Laboratory.

Construction began on the lab in May 1899. Where exactly would you find this place? According to welweb.org, some accounts place the lab "east of the Deaf & Blind School" and north of Pikes Peak Avenue. The website csindy.com places the laboratory on North Foote Avenue, just up the hill from its intersection with Pikes Peak Avenue.

Colorado Springs is responsible for two great contributions to humanity:

  • Tesla's research
  • Cassandra Peterson (Elvira, Mistress of the Dark) who was born in Kansas, but raised in Colorado Springs

Cassandra Peterson now lives in Los Angeles. Tesla's lab is a different story. Yes, there is evidence suggesting the approximate location of Tesla's compound. It seems, however, there is little data as to the precise location of the lab.

Would this lab have been a state-of-the-art facility straight out of a James Bond movie? Not hardly. According to csindy.com,

It was a small, barn-like structure built on a once-grassy knoll, which then served as pasture land. From the center of the structure, an 80-foot tower loomed over the flat grasslands.

There you go. If you're in the market for a new obsession, why not go looking for Tesla's old lab. There might just be an open space portal which could potentially teleport you around the world, or better yet, duplicate you, just like in the movie.
