This is the last weekend before school starts all around Mesa County. I have one son who will be attending Palisade High School and my younger son and daughter will be in elementary school. Unlike their father, my kids love school. Thankfully, their mother's DNA must have kicked in just in time.

My school experience can best be described as an R-rated version of Ferris Bueller's Day Off and that was on the good days.

I once blew up a pencil sharpener in Spanish class and asked an embarrassing sexual question in Health class on a dare. One teacher retired as a result of that one. I didn't say I was proud of it, but it happened so what are you gonna do?

My wife on the other hand is brilliant. She's a meteorologist and my kids have received her brain power. My youngest daughter who is in school has math skills that would shame Rain Man.

I've heard many adults talk about how much they would like to go back to the days when they were in high school. I'm not one of them. I'm thrilled my kids can't wait for school to start next week. As for me, I think I'll go in the backyard and destroy another pencil sharpener.
