While many outdoor enthusiasts are starting to think about snow sports, water lovers in Montrose are watching their dream come true with the construction of a new water sports park.

The Water Sports Park -- check out the map -- on the Uncompahgre River at Baldridge Park will be ready for use in 2015 and will give water enthusiasts of all skill levels a chance to play, practice and refine their water sports skills.

The City of Montrose says the water sports park will have six drop structures making it the largest in Colorado. The park will also have a spectator and beach area for those who want to swim, watch the fun and catch some sun.

In addition to the water sports park, improvements and building of trails along the river are being done. Other work planned or completed includes upgrades to Baldridge Park amenities and improvements to to the baseball/softball fields.

In a recent post, Trip Advisor says the water park and improvements to Baldridge Park will make it the first in the US to be fully accessible based on ADA standards.

The Montrose Daily Press reports the park project is expected to cost $1.2 million with $259 thousand of that coming from a Great Outdoors Colorado grant.
