Montrose is the latest town to ban fireworks

De Beque, Fruita, Grand Junction and other cities have already banned fireworks. This 4th of July will certainly have less "pop" than in years past. Like most towns, the City of Montrose fireworks display will go off as scheduled just no fountains in the driveaway or rockets launched from your backyard.

The ongoing drought conditions are the reasons for the bans and one needs only to read the stories on our website, watch the local news, or scroll through your news feed to see the stories of the Colorado wildfires. The 416 fire continues to burn. Authorities say it may be the end of July before that blaze is fully contained. The Buffalo Mountain fire has forces 1,400 homes to be evacuated. That fire started Tuesday near Silverthorne.

As much as I love fireworks I certainly understand why we will need to celebrate this year without them. Please do your part and not shoot off any fireworks this holiday. Get out and support your local community events and let's all have a safe and Happy 4th of July!
