Forget about the getaway car, a man who attempted a robbery in Montrose used a bicycle.

The Montrose Police Department and Montrose Regional Crime Stoppers report on June 2 at approximately 11 p.m. a man rode to the Montrose Travel Center at 1440 North Townsend Avenue on a BMX bicycle.

Once inside the store, the suspect showed the clerk a handgun and demanded the money in the cash register. When the clerk activated the store's alarm, the suspect panicked and fled the store, leaving both the loot and the bicycle behind.

The male suspect was wearing a mask at the time of the crime, so the best description is that he's about  5-feet tall and was last seen wearing a black hooded jacket, white t-shirt, and dark (possibly olive) colored pants.

Anyone with information about this attempted robbery can contact the Montrose Police Department or Montrose Regional Crime Stoppers at 970-249-8500.
