Mavs End Season 31-2 With Loss In Elite 8

It was their first trip ever to the NCAA Elite 8, and it will be an experience the CMU Women's basketball team will remember for a lifetime. But it's a trip to San Antonio that ends in disappointment as the Mavericks fell to the Dowling College Golden Lions by a score of 60-44. The Mavericks ran into a very tough defensive squad and found nearly every shot to be challenged.The Mavericks jumped to a 6-2 lead to start the game and for most of the first half the lead went back and forth. With 4:17 to play in the first half Sharaya Selsor's jumper gave CMU a 20-17 lead, but  Dowling scored the final 8 points of the half to take a 25-20 lead into the locker room at half time. The Mavericks committed 10 first half turnovers.

In the second half, Dowling used that tough defense to gradually extend the lead.The Mavericks were within 7 points with 13:53 to play, but Dowling scored the next 5 points and CMU never got closer than 10.

For the game, the Mavericks shot just 29% from the field and only went to the free throw line 8 times, hitting 7 of them. Dowling meanwhile shot 43% from the field and 17-22 from the free throw line. Dowling blocked 9 Maverick shots, 7 of those by the 6-3 Danielle Wilson. The Mavericks were just 3-20 from three point range.

The leading scorer for the Mavericks was Kelsey Sigl with 15,while Bruna Deichmann added 11. Mavs second leading scorer, Katrina Selsor was held scoreless.

Under first year head coach Taylor Wagner,  the Mavericks finish the season at 31-2, the best in Mavericks basketball history.
