Lukas Nelson & The Promise of the Real will have the honor of being the first headline band to perform at the new Amphitheater at Las Colonias Park.

I'll share how to take advantage of that deal shortly, first a quick tutorial on Lukas Nelson & The Promise of the Real. Yes, he's Willie Nelson's son. Beyond that fact is the reality of the talent of he and his band wield. Cowboy, hippie, surf rock is the official definition of what the band is. What they are is really good. So good that Neil Young chose the band to back him on his 36th studio album "The Monsanto Years" and the tour that followed. That's endorsement enough.

The band began when Lukas moved to LA from Hawaii in 2007. There he met drummer Anthony LoGerfo, at all places a Neil Young concert, shortly after the two began playing music together.

In fall 2008, Lukas dropped out of college to pursue his music career full-time. The band played its first gigs later that year and recorded their first EP "Live Beginnings” and hit the road full-time. In 2009, the band began as an opening act for his pops Wille including a five night stop at the legendary Filmore in San Francisco. Following that was a stint with the one and only, B.B.King.

The band released their sophomore album in the spring of 2012. Then back on the road on a cross-country tour. Also that year Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real backed John Fogerty on his tour of the US and Canada. They guys performed on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on May 14th of that year.

Which brings us back to the project with Neil Young where his brother Micah Nelson also contributed to the project. The simple fact is this band is something special and a fitting choice to break in the new digs at Las Colonias Park.
