It's official the NHL Stadium Series will stop in Denver next season. Over the all-star break, the NHL made the announcement of the three outdoor games for the 2015-2016 season and the return of the World Cup of Hockey.

On January, 1st 2016 the 8th annual Winter Classic will take place at Gillette Stadium, you know the home of the New England Patriots. The game will feature a battle between two original six teams as the Montreal Canadians will take on the Boston Bruins.

The first game of the Stadium Series will be in Minnesota on February 21st. The Chicago Blackhawks will take on the Minnesota Wild at TCF Bank Stadium home of the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers.

The second game will be held on Saturday February 27th at Coors Field in Denver. The Detroit Red Wings will come to play the Colorado Avalanche. This will mark the first time one of the outdoor games is held in Denver.

The NHL also announced the return of the World Cup of Hockey after a 12-year hiatus. The tournament will take in September of 2016 at Air Canada Center in Toronto.

The tournament will feature teams from the United States, Canada, Russia, Sweden, Finland and the Czech Republic plus two all-star teams. One will feature the best players from North America who is 23-and-under, the other will feature the best players from Europe.

This will be a great tournament to kick off the 2016-2017 season so mark your calendars for these great upcoming NHL events.
