This Sunday the annual Indianapolis 500 will take place so I thought it would be fun to look at pit stops then and now. Over the years the pit stop has become just as big a part of the race as driving it. One false move in the pit and the race can be lost or won.

I remember watching when I was a kid and it didn’t seem like pit stops played that big of role. Maybe because they did take a long time compared to how fast they are today. If you could get out of the pit in less than 30 seconds that was a big deal but today some of these crews can make a pit stop in less than 13 seconds.
