Incubus returned this year with 8, their first new studio album since 2011's If Not Now, When? and netted another high debut on the Billboard 200 chart. The record secured the band's fifth consecutive debut inside the Top 5, ascending to No. 4.

Only recent albums from Kendrick Lamar, Ed Sheeran and Drake faired better on the most recent week's chartings. Billboard reports that Incubus' new record shifted 52,000 units, 49,000 of which were from traditional album sales. The metric for measuring units has shifted alongside current consumer consumption trends, now incorporating track equivalent albums and streaming equivalent albums from certified streaming and video-on-demand platforms.

Incubus previous albums, If Not Now, When? (2011), Light Grenades (2006), A Crow Left of the Murder... (2004) and Morning View (2001) all debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, save for Light Grenades, which topped the chart. With the Fungus Amongus and If Not Now, When? being the exceptions, every one of the band's albums have been certified Gold or better in the U.S. and it remains to be seen if 8 will reach the same mark.
