If you ride a bike in Mesa County, you need to do this. If you don't, it could cost you your bike.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office has a problem -- they've got too many bikes, and they're not theirs. They recover lots of bikes, as in hundreds, that owners don't ever get back.

If you don't register your bike and it gets stolen, then retrieved by the police how are you going to get it back? You're not. Here's how to quickly and easily make sure if stolen, your bike can make it's way back into your...hands.

  • Step 1: Fill out this form to register your bike. Make sure you give as much information about your bike as possible.
  • Step 2: Take and print a picture of your bike. The picture should be a portrait of your Batmobile, I mean bicycle, with no other bikes in the frame. A picture isn't required, but if you want your bike back, you should take one and keep one too.
  • Step 3: Turn in your form.

You can turn in your form at the Mesa County Sheriff's Office: 215 Rice Street in Grand Junction. They're open 9 am - 5 pm, Monday - Friday.

The form is extremely simple and easy to fill out. I'd say it'd take you a whopping five minutes to fill it out. You've been through a lot with your bike, lots of bumps and turns, hills and maybe even mountains. If you lost your bike was found, wouldn't you want it back?
