A closure on Interstate 70 could linger into the afternoon hours, hampering travel plans across the state of Colorado.

An overturned tanker truck between Dotsero and Gypsum caused the closure this morning, and the Colorado Department of Transportation says the closure could last until mid-afternoon.  Traffic is being diverted to U.S. 6.

Driving conditions have been treacherous across the state with a number of closures along the I-70 corridor, including a stretch between Clifton and Exit 26 at the Love's Truck Stop.The Colorado State Patrol has advised motorists to delay travel plans if at all possible due to hazardous conditions.

Commuter traffic in Grand Junction this morning was backed up due to accidents and extremely slick conditions. One motorist reported it took her more than an hour to get to work

Elementary schools in Mesa County School District 51  were on a two -hour delay this morning but are releasing students early today due to weather conditions. Elementary classes will dismiss at 1:50 p.m. Elementary students who are currently at home are advised to stay there.
