Next month in New York a legendary guitar will hit the auction block but how much will it fetch? The guitar is a 1954 black Gibson that was owned and played by Mr. Les Paul but it is so much more than that.

Les Paul was not only a killer guitarist but a damn good inventor. That is why he is the only man who is in both the Rock-N-Roll and the Inventors Hall of Fame.

Musically his playing style and innovations in fretting, chording and licks set him apart from anyone of his time and he charted 48 songs from 1945 to 1961.

On the invention side of things he helped create overdubbing, tape delay, phasing effects and multitrack recording. Les Paul also was a pioneer in the solid-body electric guitar, which is were this 1954 black Gibson comes in.

This isn't just a guitar that some dead guitar god played, this was the prototype for the development of the Gibson Les Paul guitar. So, how much is this piece of rock-n-roll history worth?
