A day full of high winds has kept Xcel Energy crews busy trying to keep the power on in various locations around Grand Junction today (June 12).

Xcel has dealt with multiple outages due in part to sustained winds of 30-40 mph and gusts from 35-58 mph since 10 a.m. according to the National Weather Service.

As of 4:30 p.m. there have been 20 reported outages affecting over 300 Grand Junction Xcel customers. Multiple outages have also been reported in and around the Denver area.

Grand Valley Power has also reported outages this afternoon. In addition to affecting power lines, KKCO reports winds across western Colorado have downed trees and damaged houses and cars.

The National Weather Service predicts gusty winds continuing until approximately 7 p.m. with the current red flag warning lasting until 11 p.m.
