The Theatre Project has a special treat in store this weekend for the Grand Junction community as the group brings “Shrek the Musical” to the stage.

The Theatre Project will perform “Shrek the Musical” this Friday (November 1) and Saturday (November 2) at Grand Junction High School, 1400 North 5thStreet in Grand Junction. Performance times are at 7:00 p.m. each night and a 2:00 p.m. matinee on Saturday.

“Shrek the Musical” is based on the DreamWorks film that started it all, bringing everyone's favorite ogre to the community theater stage. In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre — not a handsome prince — shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won't shut up, a bad guy with a SHORT temper, and more than a dozen fairy tale misfits, and the result is the kind of mess that calls for a real hero, who just happens to go by the name of Shrek. “Shrek the Musical” is considered part romance, part twisted fairy tale and irreverent fun for everyone.

The Theatre Project is an adult community theater company that produces theater and music theater performances throughout the year. Proceeds from this weekend’s event will benefit the Youth Theatre Project, which is a tuition free theater program for students throughout the Grand Valley.

Tickets for “Shrek the Musical” are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors.
