A teenager was shot early this morning (January 8) in Grand Junction.

UPDATE: Authorities report the teenager accidentally shot himself in the abdomen and his injuries are life-threatening.

Police are still gathering details of the shooting and ask that anyone who might have information that may help the investigation to call the Grand Junction Police Department at 970-242-6787

ORIGINAL REPORT: Early reports indicate the shooting occurred around 3 a.m. in the 2800 block of Hall Avenue.

The victim is a 14-year-old male who's name has not been released. Initial reports indicated the teen is at a local hospital and is serious condition.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are not known at this time. We expect more information to be available once the police investigation of the shooting is complete.
