After avoiding the ax on previous occasions, the Grand Junction Sears store is being shut down.

Earlier this year, the company announced the closing of several Sears and Kmart stores across the country and Grand Junction was not on the list. However, additional nationwide closings were added to the list this week, including the location at Mesa Mall.

Liquidation sales are expected to begin immediately, with the Grand Junction store closing by the end of the year.

The Sears Outlet on North Avenue in Grand Junction was not on the list, but its ultimate fate remains to be seen.

The announcement comes as another major retailer at Mesa Mall is nearing the end of its going out of business sale. The Grand Junction Herberger's department store will close its doors for the final time next week.

With Herberger's and Sears going out of business, two more gaping holes will be left at Mesa Mall.
