Grand Junction Runs All Over Durango – Weekend Football Wrap-up
The third high school football game of the weekend at Stocker Stadium showcased the Grand Junction Tigers hosting the Durango Demons Saturday night.
The Tigers ran, blocked, and intercepted the Demons all game, planting the Demons quarterback on the ground all night long. The Tigers got the ball back with 29 seconds in the first half and with only 11 seconds they scored and were up 42 to 3 at half time. Coming back in the third quarter, the Tigers kicked off the Durango, yet 4 minutes later, they were in the end zone again.This engaged the mercy rule and started a running clock. Durango finally found the end-zone in the 4th quarter bringing the final score to 49 to 10.
Friday night at Stocker the stand were full as Central hosted Fruita-Monument. Fruita-Monument won big with a final score of 33 to 10. See the complete story here.
Also in action Friday night, it was a battle of nothing but Panthers as the Delta Panthers were in Cortez to play Montezuma-Cortez Panthers. It was a close first half with Delta only leading by the score of 14 to 6 after two quarters. Delta's offense was in high gear in the second half scoring 20 points in the third quarter and another 14 in the fourth to win 48 to 20.
The Montrose Indians had the weekend off to get ready to travel to Grand Junction next Friday night to play Fruita-Monument at Stocker Stadium.
Thursday night was the first of the three game weekend and it brought the #1 and #2 ranked 3A teams to Stocker Stadium. The Palisade Bulldogs were hosting the Rifle Bears in a game that was all Rifle. The final score was 31 to 3. See the entire story here.
Next weekend there will be 3 local games at Stocker Stadium again. Two will be high school and the third will be a night game for the CMU Mavericks. Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM the Central Warriors will host Durango.
