Two Grand Junction police officers escaped injury Wednesday when they were struck by a reckless vehicle.

According to the Grand Junction Police Department, the incident occurred near 7th and Patterson shortly after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 11). Officers were investigating a three-car accident and waiting to get the vehicles removed from the scene.

A silver Ford F150 truck drove past the officer directing traffic and got into a lane that was closed to traffic. The officer attempted to stop the truck, but it accelerated, striking the officers duty belt, and then  proceeded eastbound on Patterson.

Another officer attempted to stop the vehicle but was struck on his right hand by the passenger side mirror with enough force to break the mirror away from the body of the truck. At that point, the driver got out of the vehicle and was taken into custody.

The driver was identified as 67-year-old Denzil Harward. He was charged with Reckless Endangerment and Obstructing an Officer, and then released on a summons.
