Grand Junction Events for Thanksgiving Weekend November 28-December 1
We're finally coming up on a very long holiday weekend, and if you're looking for something to do this Thanksgiving weekend (besides shopping), the following list of events just might help in planning out the weekend:
Grand Junction Local Fire Department #2808 and Rocky Mountain Health Plans will sponsor the 7th Annual Turkey Trot 5K. The race will be professional chip timed, but runners and walkers who wish to do the event recreationally can choose to race without a timing chip. Cost is $25 for ages 16 and up, $15 for ages 5 to 16, and kids under 5 are free. (Strollers and leashed pets are welcome at this family-friendly event.) Proceeds from this event will benefit Toys for Tots, Colorado Professional Firefighters Foundation, and a local fund for sick or injured firefighters and their families. Register online at www.gjturkeytrot.org. Packet pick-up and race-day registration will take place at Two Rivers Convention Center before the race.
Salvation Army will once again host its annual Thanksgiving dinner at the Grand Junction Elks Lodge. For information on how to have dinners delivered to shut-ins, call 970-242-3343.
All are welcome to attend this event. Dinner will be served at First Christian Church, on the western side of Sherwood Park.
VFW Post 1247 will host Thanksgiving dinner at the VFW Post on Ute Avenue in Grand Junction. Everyone is welcome.
Carlson Vineyards will have a Holiday Open House to help celebrate their 25th year of making Colorado wines. Free tastings & tidbits paired with wines in our winery amongst the tanks. Soak in the mellow atmosphere and aromas of this year's wines in the making, sip holiday drinks Cherry 'n Chocolate and Hot Peach Cobbler in a Mug. Pet cats, win a doorprize, or walk up the hill behind the winery to take in the valley views. Friends & family welcome.
