Mesa County Deputy ‘Diligently Observed’ Kmart Dumpster Ablaze

An alert Mesa County Sheriff's Deputy noticed a dumpster fire at the Grand Junction Kmart over the weekend. The Grand Junction Fire Department responded quickly and extinguished the flames. Do you have any idea who might have started the blaze?

Several theories have emerged via Facebook as to the cause of the fire. One Facebook user commented, the "Barbie Conspiracy," suggests a couple of Ken and Barbie dolls were using their BBQ grill in the dumpster, and things got out of control.

A more popular theory would be that someone deliberately started the fire for the lack of anything better to do.

This event is regrettable for a couple of reasons:

• There exists a residential area just East of the dumpsters.
• The container was used to collect recyclables benefiting the Roice-Hurst Humane Society.
