In a move that does not come as a surprise, the Grand Junction Baseball Committee has canceled former Major League Baseball player Curt Schilling's scheduled appearance at the 2016 JUCO banquet.

The action by the committee comes in the wake of comments made earlier this week by Schilling regarding transgender rights. Schilling was fired by ESPN after his comments appeared on his Facebook page.

In a press release, the committee said

After careful consideration and in keeping with the mission to make this the best possible experience for the more than 400 student-athletes, coaches and fans in attendance at the banquet, the committee determined this was the correct decision.

The committee is currently exploring other options for the JUCO banquet which is scheduled for May 27th at Two Rivers Convention Center to kick-off the 2016 Junior College World Series in Grand Junction.
