Friday night the Grand Junction Tigers and Fruita Monument Wildcats renew their rivalry at Stocker Stadium. Last season the Wildcats upset the Tigers on Homecoming night and had a good run at the Southwest title. The Tigers want a little revenge.

The Wildcats are 2-3 on the season and will look to go .500 with a win over Grand Junction. Quarterback Jake Lynch has thrown for over 500 yards with three touchdowns, completing just over 50% of his passes but that isn’t the strength of this Wildcats team.

The Wildcats are a running team and they do it as a team. Cody Maston is the leading rusher with 215 yards but Lynch is right behind him with 213 yard. The Wildcats also have three more backs with over 40 yards each.

The Wildcats will need their defense to make a few plays if they want to repeat the upset from last year.

The Grand Junction Tigers come into the game with a record of 4-1 and a pretty solid team.

Tyler Heinsma has thrown for over 620 yards on the season with five touchdowns and two interceptions. Theron Verna, Kaleb Johnson and Jack Parsons are a three-headed beast, the trio has over 530 yards receiving and takes care of the ball when they get it.

Austin Lewis with over 860 yards and 10 touchdowns leads the ground attack. Heinsma has over 370 rushing yards and when you add Dion Martinez to the mix the Tigers can run with any 5A team in the state.

The Tigers defense is pretty solid as well; they have only given up 138 point this season.

I know it sounds like a broken record but the records don’t count in this game. Both teams play hard and know each other pretty well. This is going to be a fun game.
