In Dolan Springs, Ariz., a nine-year-old girl accidentally shot and killed her firearms instructor with an Uzi.

The young girl was on vacation with her family from New Jersey when they decided to go shooting at  Burgers and Bullets shooting range in Dolan Springs, Ariz.

According to the Washington Post, the girl had safely fired the gun while it was in“single-shot” mode. But then the gun was put into fully automatic mode, the girl lost control of the gun as it went above her head, and she shot the 39-year-old firearms instructor in the head and killing him.

First of all, why you'd want your nine-year-old girl shooting an Uzi is beyond me.

Remember I'm a gun advocate. I practice and teach gun safety, but teaching a small child how to shoot a fully automatic weapon just seems like a bad idea. Teaching her how to handle it without any ammo in it would be the first step.

Unfortunately that's not what happened.

Always, always, always, keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to kill or destroy what ever the gun is aimed at.

They say hindsight is 20/20. I say an ounce of prevention is worth saving somebodies life.

At Bullets and Burgers, they have a minimum age of eight, but they must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
