Police were dispatched to the Clifton area around 5:30 a.m. Friday (July 10) for reported gunshots which lead to a standoff at a Mountain Vista Drive home.

Early morning shots were fired in the area of 32 1/8 and D 1/2 Roads in Clifton -- no injuries were reported -- where law enforcement agents gathered information from witnesses that directed them to a residence at 492 Mountain Vista Drive. Deputies tried to make contact with the people inside the house, but initially received no response.

SWAT team members from the Grand Junction Police Department and the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, as well as trained negotiators from the Sheriff's Office, were called to the scene.

At this time, negotiators started working with two adults who exited the home. A short while later, four more individuals exited the home without incident.

Five of the six people were detained by deputies as they sorted out their possible connection with the reported incident at 32 1/8 Road.

Homes in the immediate area were placed on "shelter in place" which was lifted after the area had been cleared.
