CP&W is encouraging fishing at Carson Lake before dam upgrade.

I have fished there before. I hit Carson Lake on The Grand Mesa during last year's "Free Fishing Day." It looks like I need to get back up there soon. Colorado Parks & Wildlife plan to drain the lake in order to reinforce and upgrade the dam. It's over 70 years old and in need of some work. The lake will be drained later this summer.

Earlier in June, CP&W lifted the possession limit for all fish in the lake in hopes of removing as many as possible before they pull the plug. Just because the bag and possession limit is gone it doesn't mean you can keep everything or seine the lake. All fish must be caught legally and within CP&W regulations. You must have a valid Colorado fishing license too.

The dam upgrade project is excepted to take up to three years to complete. The work is preventative in nature and there no danger or damage to the dam. Good luck and happy fishing!
