Faith No More Unleash New Song ‘Superhero’
Back in late January, Faith No More teased that fans would be getting a new song called "Superhero" on March 17. While that still is the release date of the 7" limited edition vinyl single, fans are getting a chance to hear it in advance of the street date. The song was just premiered by Marvel Comics' website and can be heard in the player above.
Bassist Bill Gould, who produced the upcoming Sol Invictus album, told Marvel of the song, "'Superhero' actually just started from the sound of the song, where it has these pounding drums and it has like this throbbing kind of pulse, and we just called it the 'Superhero' song. Because, a lot of the ways we write we visualize things."
He added, "Actually this is kind of interesting because we’re probably a unique band in a way. While we write music we’re talking about chord changes and different things like that. What we do is we describe scenes together, and we can visualize the scene and the music kind of comes. We kind of make movie scenes for movies that don’t exist. 'Superhero' was one of those where it was definitely a superhero comic, I mean that was just the vibe of the song, and when Mike [Patton] came to me writing words about it, we were already calling it 'Superhero.' So it’s kind of like in the DNA; it’s a comic strip."
As stated, "Superhero" will be released as a limited edition 7" vinyl offering on March 17, with a digital release expected to follow on March 31. The song follows in the footsteps of "Motherf---er," a track the band issued last fall for Record Store Day's Black Friday promotion. The group also recently previewed a song called "Cone of Shame" while in Tokyo. The Sol Invictus album will arrive in stores May 19. You can pre-order it here.
The band is currently in the midst of a world tour. They'll return to North America on April 15 in Vancouver, with dates booked well into May. See their upcoming dates here. And check out more of Faith No More's Bill Gould chatting with Marvel at this location.
