Additional Information

December 4–6, Music at Mesa and Karen Combs will present the 15th annual Best of the West Music Festival featuring three public concerts and two days of workshops for over 200 talented high school musicians from Colorado and Utah.

On December 4th, guest artist JD Shaw will present a solo horn recital at 7:30 pm in the Carolyn D. Love Recital Hall. Shaw is Associate Professor of Horn at University of South Carolina and was formerly the French hornist with the internationally acclaimed Boston Brass. Tickets for his guest recital are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for students.

On December 5th, the CMU Wind Symphony will take to the stage at 7:30 pm in the Robinson Theatre and will perform a world premiere composition by Michael Markowski. The new piece is entitled "Our Illusion of Separateness." The Wind Symphony will surround the audience on the main floor to perform the piece, with the intention of removing the illusion of the separateness between audience and performance ensemble. This concert will also feature compositions of past commissions as the CMU Wind Symphony prepares for its performance at the Colorado Music Educators Conference in January. Guest conductors for the concert are Karen Fannin from the University of Nebraska-Omaha and Debbie Baker from Colorado Christian Schools. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for students.

The Final Concert will feature a variety of music by current composers, played by three different student bands. The concert is free and will be presented in the Robinson Theatre at 3:00 pm on Saturday, December 6th.
