A news helicopter flying around Denver came upon a majestic sight, a herd of elk that was a must shoot - with a video camera - that shows what every Colorado big game hunter dreams of seeing.

The elk were spending some leisure time at Rocky Mountain Arsenal which, as a wildlife refuge, is a very safe place for elk to be during hunting season.

It's incredible, even if you're not a hunter, to see the kind of wildlife who call Colorado home. On behalf of hunters in the state, I wonder if this herd might consider moving to an area where hunting is legal.

In another hunting story, an elk hunter mistakenly shoots a Colorado moose believing it was an elk. He did the right thing and reported the incident himself.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife offers this video tutorial to teach people how to know if what you are seeing is an elk or a moose.
