Sunday evening both eastbound and westbound I-70 traffic through the Tunnels was closed due to a power outage.  Both are open today.

Colorado Department of Transportation closed the tunnels after a snowstorm caused a power outage in the area. It's early fall but winter weather is already wreaking havoc in the higher elevations and causing travel problems on I-70. Along with the power outage were numerous wrecks due to the nasty weather. There were reportedly rockslides too that contributed to the challenging travel conditions.

After working through the night CDOT was able to clear the accidents and reopen I-70. If this is a sign of things to come, the winter of 2017 could be record setting.  Along with the tunnel closure, the Vail Pass was shut down for several hours as well.
