One of the best defensive centers in the game has been announced as the fan-selected cover athlete for NHL 15.

EA Sports has revealed that Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins has beaten Pernell Karl Subban of the Montreal Canadiens in its Twitter contest to determine the cover athlete for NHL 15's box art. The winner was selected tthrough a tally of Twitter hashtags for both players and the game's title, with over 10 million votes from hockey fans around the world chiming in on who they would want. Bergeron is the first Bruins player to become a cover athlete for a hockey game in two decades, with Andy Moog on the cover of NHL 94.

"Being featured on the cover of NHL 15 is a dream come true," said Bergeron. "The fact that the cover is selected entirely by fans is an incredible feeling. The passion and support from hockey fans, especially Bruins fans, is unlike any other sport and I'm so grateful to everyone who voted for me."

NHL 15 is lacing up its skates for a Sept. 9 release date on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
