The statewide five-week enforcement period will run until May 14th.

Spring isn't just the start of warmer weather and more outdoor activities. It the start of the Colorado Department of Transportation and Colorado State Patrol's DUI enforcement period. It kicks off Friday, April 13th and runs through Monday, May 14.

A lot is happening in the springtime, such as graduation parties, concerts, 4/20 celebrations, the start of baseball season, just to name a few. These events have historically given people a reason to drink or consume cannabis,” said Darrell Lingk, Director of CDOT’s Office of Transportation Safety, in a news release. “We’re urging folks to keep your friends and family from getting behind the wheel if they’re impaired. This is everyone’s responsibility.”

Better safe than sorry. Last year the spring DUI enforcement blitz nabbed nearly 2,000 driving under the influence. Drivers were cited by law enforcement for driving under the influence of alcohol, marijuana or other drugs. You don't want to be part of that number this year.
