The annual summer ‘The Heat is On’ campaign is underway in Colorado and you don’t want to get caught in the DUI net. Last year some 1,300 people in Colorado got a DUI during the campaign and this year it could be even higher.

The campaign got underway on August 15th and will run through September 2nd. According to CDOT spokesperson Emily Wilfong we may see an increased number of checkpoints around work and construction zones so you might want to keep that in mind before you crack a cold after work.

The blood alcohol content (BAC) for getting a ticket for driving while ability impaired (DWAI) is now set at .05 and you only need to hit .08 to get a DUI. That isn’t much alcohol to hit those marks and if you get pulled over you might as well throw $10,000 out the window.

Labor Day weekend is right around the corner so be safe and don’t hit the roads will any alcohol in your system or you could become one of the 1,300 who got busted drinking and driving in Colorado.
