Recently DeeJ, the Community Manager over at Bungie, developers of Destiny, informed everyone the wait is almost over for the much-requested chat feature for matchmaking.

Rolling out with update 1.0.3 (tentatively coming Nov. 18) will be the Beta version of Destiny's new opt-in chat feature. Bungie Design Lead M.E. Chung explains, "We believe that requiring players to opt-in to chat leads to more friendly environments." The article posted by DeeJ also expands on this thought, saying that Bungie's "philosophies for in-game chat still rely heavily on the notion of consent."

What this update means for players is the chance to test out this new chat feature with its two different options. The first option is Fireteam Chat and will be signified by the speaker icon in game. This option has been available since launch and allows players to speak to the Guardians within their pre-formed parties. It also includes players that join in orbit before a match is started. The second option is Team Chat, signified by a megaphone icon, and will only be available after the update. This chat requires that you join a new channel that will provide for Team Chat. This chat is all encompassing and will allow you to chat with Guardians not only from your Fireteam, but also anyone you meat throughout Matchmaking. Of course, the Guardians on your Fireteam have to opt-in to the chat just as you had to, otherwise they will not be able to join.

Remember, Bungie is looking for your feedback when these new options come with the next update. Just try not to flame too much. Or at all for that matter.
