A popular Grand Junction business has opened a new location at the long-time vacant building on the corner of 27 Road and Highway 50. Look out Orchard Mesa, you can now smell the sweet aroma from one of Western Colorado's most popular coffees.

Early Sunday afternoon the sign went up at 2700 S. Highway 50. This location was home to a convenience store for over 30 years. That store closed its doors roughly two years ago. As of today, a well known coffee vendor has opened its doors at the site.

Jitterz already operates a coffee hut in the parking lot outside of R.E.I. at 644 North Avenue. That particular location has received excellent reviews from sites such as Yelp!.

According to their Facebook page, the new Orchard Mesa location is having their grand opening today (May 8)!

Somehow or another the knowledge of this new location slipped past me. Driving down the highway on Sunday, I saw the sign going up. I quickly pulled over and slipped into private detective mode and began snapping a few undercover photos. Unbeknownst to me, these were the final touches before opening the doors to the public.

I'm a little bit envious of the owners at this new location. Roughly five years ago I was in preparations to open a similar business in the shopping plaza directly across the street. After some number crunching, a little research with the local chamber, and some serious soul searching, I chose not to pursue the venture. I applaud these owners for taking the plunge and opening a shop in this area.

Orchard Mesa is long, long overdue for its own coffee venue. The drive up coffee next to the hardware store is outstanding, but it doesn't offer any seating. The Maverick directly across the street has excellent coffee, but again, it's not a coffee house. The City Market in Orchard Mesa is in the same boat. The area has needed a "venue" and now it looks like it is getting one.

Be sure to swing by and welcome them to the neighborhood. Speaking as an Orchard Mesa resident, this is some of the best news we could ask for. Welcome aboard, Jitterz.
