Dave Grohl Convinced Grammys Producers to Include Tribute to Motorhead’s Lemmy

Considering the number of deaths the music world has endured over the course of the past year, Grammys producers were hard-pressed to make room for tributes recognizing all of those great losses during last week's ceremony. In the end, the awards show lined up performances remembering David Bowie, B.B. King, Glenn Frey and Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister. The latter, however, wouldn’t have happened if it were not for Dave Grohl.

The Hollywood Vampires -- the rock supergroup comprised of Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp and Joe Perry -- covered Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades” in Lemmy’s honor. Grohl introduced the band, calling the late frontman a “legend” and a “friend.” Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich has since revealed he included the tribute at Grohl’s behest.

“I will confess I didn’t have a lot of Motörhead on my iPad,” Ehrlich told Billboard. “The metalheads have Dave Grohl to thank for that, because when I asked Dave if he would introduce that segment, he said, ‘I’ll do it -- if you do something for Lemmy.’”
