When David Gonzalez was remodeling a home in Minnesota, he never thought he would find a treasure hidden in the wall. In the old days people would use newspapers and magazines to insulate their walls. Gonzalez opened the wall and started pulling the old paper out, and then he pulled out a copy of the 1938 Action Comics #1. Now, for those who don’t know this is the very first appearance of Superman in a comic book. I know it’s just a comic book but a 9.0-grade Action 1 fetched more than $2 million recently.

The comic Gonzalez found could be worth more, if not for the fact his wife’s aunt grabbed it in all the excitement of the discovery and tore the back cover, that was a $75,000 tear. Good thing it wasn’t the front. Gonzalez has put the comic up on an online auction that runs until June 11th and has already gotten 31 bids, including one for $107,333. That’s 10 time what he gave for the abandoned house in the first place. It is amazing that a comic book has survived for some 70 years in the wall of this house. In this day and age you would think all the cool little treasures like this have been found, but I guess not. This doesn’t mean you should start tearing open you walls, the odds are not in your favor.
