It's been nearly a decade since Vin Diesel has portrayed Riddick, but the character is set to make a grand return very soon in the appropriately titled 'Riddick.' A new trailer for the film premiered at Comic-Con 2013 and it's everything you'd want from something like this: red band (NSFW!) and close to three minutes long.

Seemingly ignoring the events of 'The Chronicles of Riddick,' the new film seems far more in line with the original 'Pitch Black' than the bloated sequel that failed to transform this universe into the next 'Star Wars.' Perhaps that's for the best -- Riddick seems like he's at his best when he can kill his enemies in the most gruesome manner possible, without having to worry about that stupid PG-13 rating. This thing looks cheaper than the last one, but it also looks leaner, meaner and so much more fun.

Here's the official synopsis:

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless.  Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered.  The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal.  With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

So it's a three-way cat and mouse game set in a brutal and barren sci-fi world? We dig it already.

'Riddick' hits theaters on Sep. 6. What do you think of the trailer?
