It's hard to believe there are many places in Colorado that could be considered miserable. The good news, only one is on the Western Slope and it is guaranteed to surprise you.

The list of Colorado's Most Miserable Cities was compiled by RoadSnacks. These are the cities or towns picked as the most miserable.

  1. Sheridan
  2. Edgewater
  3. Federal Heights
  4. Sherrelwood
  5. Glendale
  6. Aurora
  7. Derby
  8. Welby
  9. Berkley
  10. Gunnison

That's right, Gunnison is the tenth most miserable place in Colorado. For those of us who reside in Western Colorado, it's hard to imagine Gunnison as a miserable place to live. Sure, it gets really cold in the winter, but overall, it doesn't seem like a bad place to live.

How did RoadSnacks arrive at his conclusion? They used the following criteria to rate 118 places with populations of 2,000 or more. Percentage of residents with a college degree, average commute times, unemployment rates, cost of living, percent of married couples, percent of home ownership and poverty rate.

Gunnison scored low enough on some of these criteria to end up as one of the most miserable places to live. Here are the miserable rankings for some other Western Slope towns.

  • Rifle (15)
  • Clifton (17)
  • Delta (24)
  • Glenwood Springs (31)
  • Montrose (32)
  • Grand Junction (37)
  • Fruita (72)
