The Colorado State Troopers who were not convicted on criminal charges that came about from the 2010 shooting death of Jason Kemp are no longer Colorado State Troopers. Former Colorado State Troopers Kirk Firko and Ivan Lawyer were fired amid an internal affairs investigation.

The pair no longer have jobs protecting and serving the people of Colorado. Other members of the Colorado State Patrol Troop 4A based out of Fruita, Colorado are also the focus of a separate investigation. It has not yet come out who else is under investigation or why.

A Colorado State Patrol spokesperson told The Daily Sentinel, "We want to reiterate our commitment to provide professional law enforcement services to residents of Mesa County, our law enforcement partners and the district attorney in the community."

In April a Mesa County jury found Ivan Lawyer not guilty of negligent homicide, the jury was hung on other charges he faced and District Attorney Pete Hautzinger chose not to pursue the remaining charges or prosecute Kirk Firko.
