Colorado Rockies' Rookie Trevor Story made history in his major league debut in the Rockies' season opening win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Rockies beat Arizona 10-5 Monday night thanks in large part to Trevor Story, who was playing in his very first major league game.

Story's first major league hit was a three run home run in the third inning, which he followed up on his next at bat with a solo home run. Story became the first player in Major League history to hit two home runs while making his professional debut on opening day.

The emergence of Story may help Rockies' fans get over the loss of all-star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, who was traded to Toronto last season in exchange for Jose Reyes. Besides the fact that Tulo was a fan-favorite, Reyes is presently unavailable to the Rockies due to an off-season domestic violence charge. How that situation is resolved remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, although it's early,  the 23 year-old Story may make fans forget about bothTulowitzki and Reyes. Story won the starting job in spring training hitting .340 with six home runs, four doubles, a triple, and driving in 13 runs.

Rockies' fans are looking for some glimmer of hope that better days are ahead for this perennial losing ball club. The story of Trevor Story might just be the glimmer.

Grand Junction Rockies' fans will be interested to note that Story played for the Casper Ghosts as an 18 year-old in 2011, before the minor league team moved to Grand Junction.
