The Colorado Avalanche made just one deal before the NHL trade deadline today. The Avalanche sent 28-year-old defenceman Ryan O’Byrne to the Toronto Maple Leafs for a 2014 fourth round draft pick. O’Byrne is in the second year of a two-year $3.6 million deal and will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

O’Byrne was originally drafted in the third round in 2003 by the Montreal Canadiens, then signed with Colorado 2011. He has just one goal and three assists this season and is a minus-eight, but is second on the team in hits with 76. For $3.6 million I’m sure the Avalanche thought they would get a little better production from O’Byrne. The Avalanche will wrap-up this short season on April 27th at home against Minnesota.
