Firefighters paid tribute to the victims of 9/11 by climbing "Colorado's Craziest Hike," the Manitou Incline, in record-breaking heat.

Yesterday, September 11, firefighters donned full gear and made the nearly 2,000-foot climb in 90-degree heat. Tuesday's 90 degree temps set a record for the day's hottest temperature set back in 1895.

I climbed the Manitou Incline just last week. I did it in a pair of shorts, a t-shirt, and in the comfort of 85-degree heat. Trust me, at its easiest, the climb is a beast. I can't begin to imagine making the climb in full gear and 90-degree temperatures. This goes beyond respect and dedication.

Check out the respect coming in via social media:

Just how difficult would this be? The Manitou Incline ascends close to 2,000 feet over a distance just short of a mile. Each step is a railroad tie. There are 2,744 of these steps. About halfway up, this thing turns into a real thigh burner, and that's without all the extra gear.

Thank you, Colorado firefighters. What an amazing tribute. I regret you had to experience the record-breaking temperatures.
