The vast musical landscape of Coheed and Cambria lends itself to songs that can double as loud or soft, as needed. As part of their recent Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One tour, the group took some time to record an acoustic version of one of their album cuts "Mother May I," and have recently released their video for the song.

The original cut on the album carries a dreamlike quality, which is expanded upon in this acoustic version. Guitars capture the original melody's essence, each note sounding reflective and thoughtful. Singer Claudio Sanchez also delivers a slightly more subdued performance than usual, focusing on the prettier edge of his voice. It's an excellent take on the original, a nice gift around the holidays from the group.

Coheed and Cambria have been putting out some pretty excellent videos featuring variations on acoustic songs. The band went viral a couple of years ago after writing a song using lyrics from quotes Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell made back in 2016, when the Republican party was not in favor of the Supreme Court Justice Barack Obama had chosen to replace Antonin Scalia, as well as before where they put Scalia's dissenting opinions on same-sex marriage into song.

The group does do more serious, albeit still light-hearted takes on other songs. Sanchez took to YouTube to deliver a solo performance of Adele's "Hello," as well as a host of other covers and fun one offs on their YouTube channel.
