The CMU Mavericks defeated Western New Mexico 22-17  Saturday at Stocker Stadium in Grand Junction.  After trailing 7-0 at halftime, the Mavericks scored 22 third quarter points in route to their third straight victory.

It was a tale of two halves.  In the first half the Mavericks were outscored 7-0 and out gained 273 yards to 89.  In the second half the Mavericks outscored the Mustangs 22-10 and outgained them 257-163.

Led by senior Jake Edmiston's 23 tackles, the Maverick defense was one of the keys, forcing 6 turnovers, including two interceptions by cornerback Jordan Price who leads the team with four picks. The Mavericks lead the nation in interceptions.

Redshirt freshmen quarterback Aric Kaiser, making his first start since being injured in the season opener, complete 11 of 24 passes and threw three touchdown passes in the second quarter.

Junior running back Jake Cimolino rushed for 135 yards on 30 carries, and moved up to number three on the CMU all-time career rushing list.

The Mavericks have won three straight games for the first time since 2009, and improve to 4-2 on the season, 3-1 in the RMAC. The Mavericks are currently tied for second place in the RMAC.
