Third string quarterback Jason Haferman  threw three touchdown passes, and the CMU defensive forced 8 turnovers, including 7 interceptions as the Mavericks defeated Black Hills State on Saturday 49-11 at Stocker Stadium. Quarterback Kyle Duran, starting in place of the injured Aric Kaiser left the game with an injury in the 2nd quarter with the Mavericks leading 14-8. Haferman completed 13 of 22 passes for 162 yards and  no interceptions in leading the Mavericks to their second win of the season.

More than 2500 fans watched the  Mavericks break the game open by scoring 5 touchdowns in a 7 minute span late in the 3rd quarter and early in the 4th. Haferman connected with Steven Lindquist on a 37 yard touchdown pass, the Mavs biggest pass play of the season.

Defensively, Senior Jake Edmiston, a Palisade High School graduate, led the team in tackles for the 4th straight game and grabbed two of the Mavs 7 picks.

The Mavericks improved to 2-2 on the season, 1-1 in RMAC play. They will travel to Las Vegas, New Mexico next week to face New Mexico Highlands.
