Both Colorado Mesa University basketball teams advance in the RMAC Shootout with victories on Tuesday night The 5th seeded Maverick men upended the 4th seed CSU-Pueblo 74-65 in Pueblo, while the top-seeded Maverick women at home  handled  the 8th seed Regis 74-50.

In the men's game the Mavericks jumped out to an 18-6 lead, but the Thunderwolves came back to tie the score at 26-26 before the Mavs took a two point lead into the locker room at half time. Shooting 54% from the field for the game, the Mavericks opened up a 20 point second half lead and held on for the win. Colton Burgon scored 21 while Jeff Hart added 20.

The Mavericks will take on the #1 seed Metro State Friday night at the Auraria Sports Center in Denver. On Tuesday, the Roadrunners knocked off the #8 seed Colorado Chrisitan 87-75. On the other side of the bracket #2 Adams State defeated #7 New Mexico Highlands 91-74, while #3 Fort Lewis knocked off #6 Colorado Mines 84-70 in overtime.

The Maverick women, still ranked 4th in the nation this week,  improved to 26-1 with a convincing win over Regis. The Mavericks held the Rangers to just 15% shooting from the field in the first half and led 44-13 at halftime. Kelsey Sigl led the Mavericks with 14 points while Katrina Selsor and Bruna Deichmann each added 10.

The Mavericks will host #4 Fort Lewis in the shootout semi-finals Friday night at Brownson Arena. The Skyhawks beat CSU- Pueblo 78-67 in Durango. On the other side of the bracket, #2 Metro State beat #7 Colorado Mines 75-55, while #6 Colorado Christian defeated #3 UC-Colorado Springs 72-70. Metro will play CCU at 5:30 Friday at Brownson Arena followed by the Mavericks re-match with Fort Lewis at about 7:30.
