The BLM to open 4 new Bangs Canyon trails.

As spring is busting out across western Colorado, now's the time to dust off the hiking boots or load up the 4-wheeler and head for a trail near you. And this year there's something new. The BLM is introducing 4 new trails in the Bangs Canyon Recreation Management Area. It's some of the most spectacular landscapes around with high desert canyons and plateaus overlooking the Grand Valley and The Grand Mesa and all close to town. "We are trying to develop opportunities for the users out here in Grand Junction," said Dan Gourley, Park Ranger for the Bureau of Land Management.

The BLM will officially christen the new trails at a ceremony 6 PM Friday, April 6th in the Bangs Canyon Area. The new trails are, "Second Thoughts", a motorized single track trail, the "Cut Off", a short but extreme rock crawling route for Jeeps and modified buggies, and "Good Vibes" & "Snake Skin" mountain biking trails. While these trails are designed for mountain bikes and off-road vehicles you are also welcome to hike.

The four trails total about 5 miles of new hiking, biking, and riding accessible through the Third Flats Trailhead that now offers a bathroom, a kiosk, and a loading area for vehicles.

Get out this weekend and check out these new trails right here on the edge of town. Happy Spring everyone!
